St. Augustine, Florida, November 20-27, 2004 -- Alligator Farm®, Thanksgiving Day, November 24

When we got back to my parents' condo and I showed them the day's harvest of photos, Mom said this bird was giving me the stinkeye. So Stinkeye it is. (I really love this shot. This one's going on the wall.)

Turtles move even when they're not tired of thinking of England.

Croc heads, croc heads, roly poly croc heads. (Laura pointed this one out to me; I think this is another particularly good shot, maybe even the best of the vacation.)

One of the coolest parts of the Alligator Farm® is the rookery. It's a section of the park devoted to whatever birds happen to be passing through at the time. It's open to the elements, no cages or anything. The birds apparently like to hang out here because the gators and crocs keep the birds' natural predators at bay. We looked up this bird in my dad's bird book, but it's been over a month now, and I don't remember what he is. He looks lovely against the blue sky, though. I have to say, birds in Florida are freaking huge. Mom tells me they have small birds too like we do in New Jersey, but I didn't see any. They all seem to be about the size of cats. I don't know about you, but I find it a bit unnerving to think of a sky full of flying cats.
