I like to collect music from countries with the letter "Z" in their names.
I love music, but there's so much of it out there, that after years of drowning in LPs and CDs, I decided that there was too much to ever keep up with, and I needed to impose some arbitrary restrictions on what kind of music I listened to.
Restrictions by style would be too tough to live with, because I like so many different kinds of music. Restrictions by the format of the recording, like only buying CDs or something, don't help much, because it doesn't weed out much, unless you buy only 8-track tapes, in which case it weeds out everything. Alphabetical restrictions, on the other hand, leave so much open.
I chose "Z" because it seemed obscure and unlikely to be hard to keep up with. I should have looked at an atlas first. So far, I've come up with the following countries with the letter "Z" in their names:
If you know of any more, let me know. Unfortunately, this restriction thing doesn't work all that well, for a few reasons. First, some of the nations mentioned above are awfully productive in the music business, particularly New Zealand, Zaire, and Zimbabwe (and I've barely touched upon Brazil). Second, I'm awfully fond of music from places like Finland, Mali and Madagascar, too. Oh well....
Really! Want proof?
