Geneablogy: An occasional Journal about our experiences exploring our heritage

With all the research I've done on Marie Archange Soulliere, my 3G-grandmother, there was one thing I was never able to find, and that was information about her death. She just kind of disappeared.

Until now.

One of my DNA cousins, Deborah Stackenas, did most of the legwork on this. She found that Marie Archange was taking care of her sister Agnes and Agnes' husband Joseph Hardy. Agnes died in 1929. So did Marie Archange's husband Joseph Stanley. A few months later, Marie Archange married Joseph Hardy. She died on November 11, 1932, and is buried next to Joseph Stanley as Anna Hardy.

Deborah found the grave in Clinton Grove Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. As noted, she's buried next to Joseph Stanley. Also buried there in 1935 is Marie Archange's daughter Stella's husband, Walter Fishter, which Deborah concludes makes it crystal clear that this is in fact the grave of Marie Archange Soulliere. I agree with that conclusion. I have not been able to find a death certificate, but the cemetery records bear out that she died on November 11, 1932 and is buried in plot L-133-11. Walter Fishter is buried in plot L-133-11B. And Joseph Stanley is buried in plot L-133-10. You can look this up on the Clinton Grove Cemetery Genealogy page.

The one thing Deborah had not found was a marriage record for Marie Archange and Joseph Hardy. I went looking and found it. They married on August 12, 1929.

Marie Archange "Anna" Soulliere Kleiber Schmitt Stanley Hardy has been the most difficult to track ancestor in my 25+ years of research. It took me 12 years to find her and prove that she was the genetic parent of Charles Leon Schmitt. It's taken another 9 years to get this last bit of information. I am delighted to have finally found (with credit to Deborah Stackenas for the breakthrough on this last bit of information) the last piece of the puzzle.
